Dan Brown is an author, a regular blogger for transformED, and an English teacher at a charter school in Southeast Washington, D.C. His blog offers commentary and solutions-based ideas for enhancing and reforming teaching and learning.

At times, Brown's reflections take a political angle and focus on national and international trends and comparisons. For instance, in his October 26, 2011 post titled "Why We're Seeing Corruption in American Classrooms: Comparing the U.S. to Finland and Singapore," he suggests examining where top-performing countries, namely Finland and Singapore, are focusing their efforts and resources. His quick summary of the different approaches between these countries and the United States reveals glaring differences. Brown calls upon education stakeholders to enact reforms that will minimize corruption and maximize student achievement.

In addition to the politics of education, Brown's writings emphasize professional development and reflection. Upon achieving National Board Certification, he stated, "The National Board process has definitely made me a better educator. I've investigated and interrogated every element of my craft and found ways to improve." Brown challenges teacher leaders to take on the challenge of National Board Certification in order to delve into their own teaching and undergo meaningful professional development.

Brown's blog illustrates the many dimensions of teacher leadership and supports teacher leaders as they advocate for student learning and the profession.
