Description:
Heritage has created a framework for the rationale and development of formative assessment to improve student learning in the classroom. The key features of formative assessment include establishing clear learning goals and criteria for success; eliciting evidence about student learning; providing feedback to teachers and students about learning; and using feedback to adjust instruction and learning tactics in real time. Teacher leaders, Heritage says, should work with colleagues to create, analyze, and respond to formative assessments. This collaborative process can help to identify and promote instructional practices that improve the efficiency and quality of student learning.
